Newborn Session info
When to Schedule Your Session
It’s never too early to secure your newborn photography session! Ideally, we capture those precious moments within your baby’s first 10 days, when they’re sleeping deeply and can curl up naturally into those adorable poses. However, if you miss this initial window, don’t worry – I also welcome sessions for babies up to a month old, ensuring you still have a beautiful opportunity to cherish those early memories.
How Long Will The Session last?
Your newborn photography session is scheduled to last approximately 2-3 hours. We’ll take our time, working at your baby’s pace to capture those perfect, precious poses. This allows for feeding breaks, clean-up moments, and lots of cuddles and soothing to keep your little one happy and comfortable throughout our time together.
What to Wear
For a timeless newborn photography session, moms can wear soft, neutral-colored clothing like cream, beige, gray, or pastel shades. Simple, classic patterns like gentle florals or soft textures work well. Avoid bold logos, bright colors, or distracting patterns. A cozy, flowing top and comfortable pants or a simple dress are great options.
Dads can wear neutral-colored clothing like white, beige, gray, or navy blue, with simple, classic patterns like stripes or subtle textures. Coordinate with your partner or family members to create a cohesive look, and choose outfits that complement the studio’s backdrop or setting. Opting for timeless, classic styles and keeping jewelry and accessories simple will ensure your newborn photos are beautiful and enduring. A soft, neutral color palette featuring cream, beige, gray, pastel shades, and earthy tones will add to the timeless feel.
Here are Some Tips to Help Prepare for Your Newborn Session
– Bring a pacifier to help your baby settle between poses and ensure smoother transitions – the long Avent ones tend to work best. No worries if you prefer not to use one, though!- Pack a change of clothes for you, your partner, and baby – things can get messy!
– Ensure baby has a full tummy before we start; feeding before the session is a great idea.
– Try and keep baby awake for a couple of hours before the session this is especially important when they are over 2 weeks old.
– If your baby has been circumcised, please wait at least 5 days post-op before the session.
– Don’t stress if your baby gets fussy or won’t sleep – I’ve got this!
– Wear layers, as the studio will be warm (80-85°F) and I’ll be using a space heater to keep your little one cozy.
– Bring food, snacks, and entertainment like an iPad or book, as our session will typically last 2-3 hours. Please don’t schedule anything important afterward, just in case we run a bit over time.
– Want to incorporate special items or themes into your images? Feel free to bring them along! If you’ve seen inspiring images on Pinterest or elsewhere, I’m happy to take a look – just keep in mind that I have my own unique style when photographing and editing.
